James Asked: How can I convince my parents to let me do Wrestling in High School (Please Read Details?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school. I didn’t do any sports during my freshman year, but I’m trying to do some sports this year. I’m currently on my school’s Cross Country team. My parents won’t let me do Wrestling in the winter, as they believe it is too dangerous. They keep bringing up two bone injuries that I’ve had in the past three years (a broken arm two years ago, in which I got surgery and a metal plate in my arm, and stress fractures in my ankle about two months ago, that I got during Cross Country). They keep saying that I am injury-prone, and that I will just hurt myself by doing Wrestling. They say that it’s not safe, and that they won’t allow me to wrestle. They prefer that I do Swimming in the winter, since I already swim laps everyday at the local YMCA, but I can keep on doing that to stay in shape for Wrestling. Also, they even let me do Taekwondo when I was younger, so I don’t understand why they won’t let me wrestle. How can I convince my parents to let me do Wrestling in the winter? Thank you.

Do some research.See how many kids get seriously injured in wrestling as compared to other sports.Present them with the facts.

Tell them you were thinking oftakingup ?Base jumping?.then they might take the lesser of two evils .I do understand where your parents are coming from ?it’s because they care about you, and don’t want to see you with some serious injury that could effect the rest of you life .However they can’t stunt your growth either ?with being over-protectiveness .As one of the other answers suggested ,you shoulddo some research on wrestling , then you can approach them forearmed with knowledge of injuries and no injuries in the sport of Wrestling .
